All full-time graduate students receive scholarship funding from the University, and our offers are competitive with those of other major programs in Canada. The department also provides information sessions, proposal workshops, and one-on-one consultations for students applying to SSHRC’s Doctoral Fellowship and Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) competitions (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council).

Our graduate students  have an excellent track record in securing these awards. In 2018, fifty percent of our in-course doctoral students and twenty-one percent of our MAs hold SSHRC, CGS, CGS-Master’s, Vanier or OGS awards; two doctoral students hold Ontario Trillium Scholarships.  Students in English and Cultural Studies have also been very successful in winning internal scholarships, including the Harry Lyman Hooker Senior Fellowship and the Harvey E. Longboat Graduate Scholarships for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Students.

Please see our searchable McMaster Graduate Scholarships website for a full listing of Awards & Funding, including bursaries and travel scholarships.
