Join us on Friday November 9th at 11:00 am for Dr. McKittrick’s talk “Footnotes (Books and Papers Scattered About the Floor),” presented as part of the 2018/2019 ECS Visiting Speaker Series.

In this talk, Dr. McKittrick will explore the politics of citation in black studies. Taking its cue from the work of Richard Iton, Lisa Lowe, Sylvia Wynter and others, the discussion will address how footnoting, referencing, and other forms of citation are tied to diasporic literacy and liberation. The paper is also embedded with a cautionary tale that addresses how ownership and authenticity underpin some notational structures—even those citational projects that are committed to challenging normative knowledge systems.
